Wedding Trends Started By Bollywood That Became Mainstream

wedding trends started by bollywood

Whenever we think about weddings the first thing that comes to our mind are those Bollywood weddings that we see on screen in TV serials and movies mainly in Dharma banner films or Yash Raj banner films. These weddings are not only huge and lavish but are portrayed in a way that any girl would feel like a princess on her wedding day all those beautiful songs and dances, those beautiful outfits and looks inspire us girls in many ways. Well, I feel that they tell us that our wedding day is our day and we should feel special on this day as what ever happens it is a day of happiness and we should not deny that.

Bollywood has also made all the rituals more fun-loving and interesting by including songs and dances to them. There are so many movies that we can recall when we think about different wedding rituals. From the recent list of films, the one that I recall is the haldi ritual of Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. Wasn’t it fun and full of laughter. Well, it also showed how the involvement of friends can make your wedding even more special. But there are also some trends that these movies have started that we gladly follow. Want to know what they are? Well, here is the list:

Wedding Trends Started By Bollywood:

Battle Between The Bride’s Family And The Groom’s During Joota Chupai:

The most fun ritual as per me where the bride’s family steals the groom’s shoes and then ask for money to return them well, the twist is the groom’s family has to save the shoes so that they do not have to pay up. Which movie do you remember? I bet it is Hum Apke Hai Koun. After all, Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit’s sweet war shown in the movie started this trend.

Performance On The Sangeet Night:

Sangeet night is the night when the bride along with both her families that is her and her to be husband’s family enjoy before the wedding day. But what about the performance that the families do for the bride and the groom. Well, even this concept is inspired by Bollywood movies. There are many movies such as Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Student of the Year etc. where you can see such performance.

The Mehendi Ceremony:

During every mehendi ceremony who would not hear the song ‘mehendi laga ke rakhna’, well Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge actually made mehendi functions so lavish in the first place. Earlier mehendi functions used to be a small ceremony among the women of the house but this movie gave a new fun side to the whole ceremony making is such fun-filled celebration.

The Introductions To Wedding Planning:

I personally love the movie ‘Band Baja Barrat’. When the movie released there were very few people who knew about wedding planning. As one of the dialogs in the movie says “wedding planners in kya zaroorat hum Ghar wale milke kara lete hai shadi”. It is a fact earlier no one hired a wedding planner but after the movie became such a hit everyone started hiring wedding planners. Because not only wedding planning became a career option but also it was easier for the families as they could be with their kids and not go around chasing the vendors.

Destination Weddings:

The concept of the destination wedding was not that popular in India. Not because it was expensive but because it was not known to people. We Indians take most of the wedding ideas from the movies and when the film ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ came up with the concept of destination wedding we soon adapted to it and started following it. India is a land of beautiful palaces and lakes and keeping that as the wedding backdrop became a fashion trend that we all wanted to follow.

Bachelor Party:

We all know about the popularity of bachelor parties for ages. Every groom throws a party for his boy band to bid adieu to his singlehood and the same is done by the bride. But what about a bachelor trip? Reminded you of the beauty of Spain shown in ‘Zindegi Na Milegi Dobara’. Well, the movie made it popular after all. You might argue that Hangover showed it earlier but was it popular in India as it is now. I bet the reply would be no. Because we follow Indian actors more closely than the Hollywood ones.

Overcoming The Concept Of Mainstream Décor:

Whenever we thought of wedding décor earlier we could only picture bright colors everywhere literally blinding us. But the movie ‘Love Breakup and Zindagi’ gave us a new direction for décor by using the pastel shades which not only looks sophisticated but also very classy.

So, now you know that movies are not just for entertainment but also we pickup things from it that inspires our weddings and make them more beautiful.
